Dear Forever Family, Since the start of the global pandemic, there have been countless verbal and physical attacks against the Asian and Pacific Islander (API) community. Just last week, eight people were killed in the Atlanta area, six of whom were Asian. With 43% of our HQ employees being Americans of Asian descent, this issue is close to all of our hearts. The Forever 21 family will continue to stand united in raising our voices to condemn hate in any form. Xenophobia, racism and discrimination have no place in our communities, and we will continue to fight against the rhetoric. Many of us cannot know what it is like to be part of a community of color (Asian, Black or Hispanic), or to know what it is like to be afraid for our families, children, parents or grandparents every time they leave their homes. But as long as so many of our colleagues, friends or family live with that fear, we must summon all our empathy and humanity to check in on them and help them find the support needed to regain their sense of safety. We must also work together to maintain an environment that fosters meaningful dialogue and create safe spaces for collective sharing and healing. Last week we had meaningful discussions with some of our employees who have been impacted by recent events, or just wanted to share their concern or support for our AAPI friends and family. As we continue to look for ways to respectfully engage and make a positive impact with our community, we’d like to share more ways in which you can get involved with activities and organizations across the country. Check our IG stories for great ways we can all show our love and support. Finally, we want to say to anyone struggling with fear and despair, please contact your manager or Human Resources so we can work together to find resources that can help. Hate in any form will not be tolerated, let’s build a better future together. - Daniel Kulle, CEO |
